Johannesburg - Alfa Romeo has given its ageing Golf rival a subtle facelift, while also realigning the local range.
Available in South Africa from early in October, the revised Giulietta sports a honeycomb grille in place of the previous horizontal slats, a crisp new front bumper, polished headlight clusters, oblique tailpipes and new rims.
The 'Giulietta' bootlid badge has been re-written in the same script as the Giulia's - and moved to the same place - and the Giulietta now sports the bolder, simplified Alfa Romeo crest that was created for the Giulia.
Alfa Romeo SA also took the opportunity to rationalise the range, which now has three turbo-petrol engines - the 88kW 1.4 Turbo, the 125kW 1.4 MultiAir TCT and the 173kW 1750 Turbo TCT - and three trim levels.
Three trim flavours
The base Giulietta trim has black and grey fabric seats, a special matte black dashboard, a leather-trimmed steering wheel and new black inserts on the tunnel and door pulls.
The Super trim level has Alfa's new signature 'canneloni' pattern upholstery, also in black and grey; leather upholstery is an option on either of these models.
The range-topping Veloce specification features sports bumpers with red trim inserts, carbon look headlight clusters and glossy dark grey accents on the grille, mirrors, door handles and foglight bezels.
New sports seats are trimmed in a mix of leather and alcantara synthetic suede with integrated head restraints, red contrast top-stitching and the Alfa Romeo script embroidered on the heads restraints. These are complemented by a countered leather-trimmed steering wheels with matching red topstitching, and carbon-look dashboard surround and door panels with matte grey inserts.
The revised Giulietta is also the first model to feature Alfa Performance, a using a number of digital gauges and instruments to set up the main parameters of the car, measure your performance using special timers and see driving statistics on your smartphone.
