Mirimas - BMW has released a set of pictures of its all-new Z4 roadster in disguised prototype form, signalling that it is probably not far from revealing the finished product to the world.

The pictures show the new two-seater undergoing final dynamic testing at the company’s Mirimas test centre in southern France.

BMW has also dropped a few details about the range-topping M40i model. No output figures yet, but we suspect that the new engine will at least match its X3 counterpart with 265kW and 500Nm - although it could well offer more.

The M40i will be fitted with a lowered sports suspension system with electronically controlled dampers, a rear axle limited slip differential, a newly developed front axle and M sports braking system.

Other engine derivatives will no doubt be offered too, although BMW has yet to divulge any details on these.

The new Z4 will also form the basis of Toyota’s reincarnated Supra sports car, which is expected to be revealed fairly soon. Not only will the Toyota share its chassis with the Z4, but the Beemer will donate its six-cylinder engine to its Japanese cousin.

Toyota insiders have however confirmed that the Supra will have unique styling and chassis tuning.
