Stuttgart, Germany - Porsche is giving its 718 Boxster and Cayman range a little more sparkle with the release of the latest GTS versions.

The most powerful of the 'downsized' four-cylinder, turbocharged baby Porkers to date, the new GTS duo produce 269kW and 430Nm, which is 11kW more than the current 718 S models and 26kW more than the previous normally aspirated GTS.

The 2.5-litre boxer engine, which has been beefed up with a modified turbocharger and intake duct, can be mated to either a six-speed manual or dual-clutch PDK transmission.

When equipped with the latter, the GTS models accelerate from zero to 100km/h in just 4.1 seconds, according to Porsche, and reach a top speed of 290km/h.

The new GTS derivatives are fitted as standard with a selection of sporty features that are normally optional, including the Sport Chrono Package, Porche Active Suspension Management (which lowers the body by 10mm) and Porsche Torque Vectoring, which includes a mechanical rear diff lock.

For the showing off side of the deal, the Cayman and Boxster GTS sport satin-finish black 20-inch alloy wheels, with plenty of matching black garnishes including the GTS logos, exhaust pipe as well as headlight and taillight tinting.

The cabin features sports seats with Alcantara centres, with that material finding its way onto numerous other interior components, and the models also come with the Porsche Track Precision App, for recording performance driving data, and the dashboard features a built-in stopwatch.

The 718 Cayman and Boxster models are now available to order (SA prices below) and the first deliveries are expected to take place in January 2018.
