Oval-track enthusiasts can look forward to an evening of explosive action when the stock cars line up for round six of their 2009/2010 summer championship at Killarney on Saturday.

If the results of the popular 1660 Rite Auto Electric class from the December meeting are anything to go by, young Stephan Heydenrych (VW Golf) and Mark Fontini (Ford Escort) will be the ones lighting the fuse. But they won't be on their own - Munnik Hanekom (Ford Fiesta) and Arnold Swart (Fordwagen) have also been in great form.

Of course the strong wind in December added to the excitement and was responsible for more than one accident. In Midget class, for instance, the tearaway Robert Kitching removed the wing from his open-wheeler. This seemed to aggravate the problem to such an extent that it rolled after being caught by a gale-force blast as he exited a corner.

His car was then hit by two others and all three were lucky to escape serious injury.

Current 2.1-litre N1 championship leader Francois Muller (Renault Clio) increased his points advantage in December and will be the driver to catch in this category. However former titleholder Russel Ormerod (Opel Corsa) will be back to his best form after two poor meetings in October.

With power to burn, the V8's have been spectacular this season. Sometimes the action even became a little over-robust with the result that one driver was yellow-carded at the last meeting. So, provided they stay out of trouble, look for superior performances from Thys van Eck (Ford Thunderbird), Ernst Heydenrych (Camry V8) and Ryan Steyn (Chevrolet).

Admission R35 for persons older than 12, R10 for under-12. Children under six no charge. Gates open at 2pm, first race at 6pm.
