A father-son duel will be one of the highlights this weekend when the Pro Tour National series pays its first coastal visit of 2011 to Killarney in Cape Town.

Greg Walker, 54, and his son Nicholas, 30, are as serious as it gets when they climb into their Shelby Can Am race cars. Greg runs with the number 13 his car and hopes qualifying on Friday the 13th will bring him good fortune - if he can stay ahead of his son's identical car.

Walker senior has been racing since the age of 13; he and his son have traded places - and paint, a couple of times! - in races all over the country, but also know how to work together as a team, giving Walker the highlight of his Can Am career in2010 when he won a three-hour endurance race at Port Elizabeth's Aldo Scribantew circuit, sharing the drive with his son and touring-car legend Michael Briggs.

Nicholas said: "I don't really think I'll beat him this weekend at Killarney; he’s done so many laps there - he's been racing since before I was born. The Shelby Can Ams are difficult to master because there are so many variables in their setup, and there's absolutely no room for error on any lap."

The Killarney race day will host seven National series; apart from Shelby Can Am's the programme will include the Porsche Club Challenge, GT Challenge, Formula Vee, the Kawasaki ZX10 Masters Cup (South Africa's only National one-make series, featuring 150kW, 1000cc superbikes) and the biggest grid in South African circuit racing, the Goldwagen Challenge.

To add a local feel to the day, look out for KFM DJ Ryan O'Connor, who will be one of 50 Cape Town-based drivers in the Regional Clubmans' series.

Racing will start at 10am on Saturday; entry to all areas (including the pits!) will be R50 for adults with reduced rates for scholars; pre-schoolers get in free.
