Volkswagen's motorsport division is unleashing its first Golf 7-based racing machine and although it is technically classified as a concept, the team is planning to test it under race conditions.
It's powered by a race-tuned version of VW's 2-litre turbopetrol engine, linked to a DSG gearbox with flappy paddles, and in this guise the motor pounds out 243kW and 410Nm.
Of course, it has a specially developed racing chassis, widened by 40cm, and all the aerodynamic paraphernalia that befits a track car of this calibre, including a large front splitter and carbon rear wing.
Developed with an eye on a possible customer racing programme, Volkswagen will test it under "competitive conditions" in the TCR touring car series in Europe.
