Johannesburg - The United Nations World Food Program says more than 100 000 people have been displaced by flooding in Malawi.
The WFP said in a statement on Friday that as many as 20 000 households were affected.
Malawian Vice President Saulos Chilima said that 48 people had died during the flooding.
The WFP said it is planning to airlift more than 100 metric tons of food to the country. At least 77 000 people will be given ready to eat high-energy biscuits.
The organization said districts in the south of the country were worst affected.
In neighboring Mozambique, 38 people have died during heavy flooding there, according to Mozambican news agency, AIM.
The South African National Defense Force said it is sending troops and equipment to assist with disaster management in Mozambique.
