Dakar - Senegal's defence minister said Tuesday that China had given its military €1,5-million (about R15-million) worth of trucks, ambulances, communication and mine clearance equipment.

The minister, Becaye Diop, also said the two countries had signed an agreement for a second shipment of military goods of equivalent value.

China's ambassador to Dakar Lu Sha Ye said the donation showed Beijing's desire to help the Senegalese army in its peacekeeping missions.

Senegal has deployed troops in various peacekeeping operations on the continent notably in Sudan's troubled region of Darfur, Ivory Coast and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
