Negotiations between the Democratic Republic of Congo and the M23 rebel group will open soon in the Ugandan capital, a Congolese minister said Tuesday.
The peace talks will start “in the next few days in Kampala,” Interior Minister Richard Muyej Mangez said during a visit to Goma, the key eastern mining hub that was seized by the rebels for almost two weeks before they pulled out at the weekend.
He said the government negotiating team would include representatives from all institutions including parliament and members of civil society.
The largely ethnic Tutsi M23 group, which first launched an uprising in April before sweeping across the east last month, agreed to withdraw from Goma in return for talks with the government of President Joseph Kabila. - Sapa-AFP
