Sale - The chief suspect in a bombing at a cafe in the Moroccan tourist destination of Marrakech has recanted his confession and denied any involvement in the attack that killed 17 people.

Adel Othmani told judges and lawyers that he had “never set foot in Marrakech”. The blast on April 28 tore through the Argana cafe in Marrakech's old town, killing mostly foreigners.

Othmani is facing charges including premeditated murder and explosives-making. He is one of eight defendants being tried for the attack - among the worst ever in the North African kingdom.

Relatives of the victims and the accused were on hand as proceedings started Thursday. The trial has been adjourned until next week. - Sapa-AP
