Johannesburg - A petrol attendant and cash guard were left seriously injured during an armed robbery incident at a petrol station in Soweto, paramedics said on Thursday.

The incident took place on Thursday morning at a petrol station in Dobsonville Gardens.

Netcare spokesperson Nick Dollman said paramedics were called to the scene at around 7:43am and arrived to find two people had been shot.

"Reports from the scene allege that several men attacked an armoured cash vehicle at the petrol station.

"A Netcare 911 Advanced Life Support paramedic attended to a petrol attendant who was in a very serious condition after being shot."

Dollman said the man, 32, was then given analgesic medication to manage his pain, stabilised at the scene and then transported by ambulance to hospital for the urgent medical care.

A cash guard was also shot in the arm during the incident but was in a stable condition while two other guards were assaulted and sustained moderate injuries.

"All four patients were transported by ambulances from the City of Johannesburg EMS," he said.

Dollman confirmed that SAPS, JMPD and private armed security companies were at the scene to investigate and that an investigation was underway.
