The advocate who swore at a judge in court could literally eat his words if he wanted to - by placing an order for a “jou ma se burger” at a city restaurant.

Advocate Nehemiah Ballem is still under investigation by the Cape Bar Council after he told Judge Lee Bozalek: “Jou ma se p***, f*** you.”

He has since been admitted to hospital after his family became concerned about his mental state.

The burger, which is almost as big as the debacle the advocate’s court outburst caused, has been advertised on a chalkboard outside the restaurant, just a few paces away from the steps of the Western Cape High Court.

Castello’s is selling the “jou ma se burger” for R50. It is a beef burger stacked with bacon, egg and cheese and includes chips.

Owner Rita Ransby said the meal had become popular with Castello’s patrons.

Some initially ordered it for fun but they later returned for more, she said.

Ransby said Ballem’s remarks were a huge talking point.

“The idea just came to me, seeing it was on everyone’s lips,” she added.

She said Ballem was an occasional patron.

She did not know who Judge Bozalek was and could not say whether he had been to the restaurant.

The majority of the patrons were members of the legal fraternity.

Ransby said many people saw the dish as a joke. It had been launched a week ago and there had been only one negative report about the burger so far.

People in other parts of the country and in Namibia had heard about it, she said.

Her son in Joburg had contacted her after he had received an e-mail about the new dish

“This thing’s been going all over South Africa,” she said, adding that the word had also spread on the social network, Twitter.

Passers-by have also stopped to take pictures of the chalkboard advertisement.

“People have actually been laughing about it,” she said.

Ransby has not yet decided whether the “jou ma se burger” will become a permanent fixture on the menu. - Cape Argus
