DURBAN – Due to the Covid-19 pandemic that has spread across the world, wedding seasons and other gatherings have been put on hold until further notice. Couples who were scheduled to tie the knot this year have come up with different and innovative ideas for family and friends to join in on their big day.
Some couples have resorted to private ceremonies at their homes with their friends and family only able to witness the union on live video streaming. The other trend is ‘Drive in’ weddings. This consists of the couple and their guests to attend the wedding in their own cars. This trend has taken off in the United States of America (USA) and Germany in available parking lots.
A couple from Edmonton, Stevon Artis and Kayla Kimo, decided to have an ‘80’s style drive-in theatre wedding in the North Pointe Community Church parking lot while broadcasting the ceremony via radio signals to friends and family attending. The couple are both musicians which enabled them to get assistance from fellow musicians with the visual and audio production for their wedding.
“We still want to get married and we want to have fun with it. Everybody can still come and have a good time. And instead of us being sad about all the stuff that got cancelled, how can we have fun with it? So we decided to just have a wedding,” said Artis, the groom.
