DURBAN - Lesotho,Tajikistan and Turkmenistan in Asia are some of few countries with no confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the world.

According to data from Reuters the biggest cluster of Covid-free countries are among the islands of the Pacific. There are 21 island nations and territories in Oceania that have reported no cases including Samoa, American Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu, Tokelau, Niue, Nauru, Kiribati, the Cook Islands and the Solomon Islands.

While there are no officially confirmed cases of Covid-19 in North Korea, foreign analysts believe that the virus has spread to the country. The North Korean government has taken extensive measures, including quarantines and travel restrictions.

On Tuesday the tiny kingdom of Lesotho announced that a coronavirus lockdown would be tentatively lifted, in the only country in Africa yet to report a single case of Covid-19. That lockdown was extended to May 6 last month.

Prime Minister Thomas Thabane said “all non-essential services and enterprises” would be allowed to “temporarily open shop” from Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Lesotho’s Finance Minister, Moeketsi Majoro says although the country has not yet recorded any COVID-19 cases, he still remains unconvinced.

“I’m not confident at all and I am not convinced that there are no COVID-19 cases in Lesotho,” he said.

Majoro’s doubts is a result might be due to the fact that Lesotho does not have any testing capacity.

According to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University, more than 3.2 million people have been infected, and the global death toll is more than 229,000. More than one million patients have recovered.
