CAPE TOWN -

As the matric class of 2020 gears up for their exams which is stressful for most students, this year’s matriculants had the added pressure of students having to learn from home without formal learning.

This examination will be the largest public exam ever administered in South Africa with over a million candidates expected to write.

Counselling Psychologist, Raydene Naidoo, says that matriculants should view this as a hero's journey and to take a step back and know that they’ve navigated themselves through a global pandemic.

“Grade 12 is one of the more significant events in your life and it is only exactly that, one of the significant events,” said Naidoo.

“There are going to be many more that you face and this is really just a period where you will identify the strengths that you have and that you have the capability of facing challenges going forth,” she said.

Naidoo added that teachers and parents are the immediate support system to learners and that they should encourage them at this time and not add any additional stress like comparing them to older siblings.
