Pietermaritzburg - Two brothers accused of stabbing a man to death in Thornville appeared in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, KwaZulu-Natal police said.

The matter was postponed for further investigation, Captain Thulani Zwane said.

“At the moment we don't have the date, but usually first appearances are postponed for seven days.”

Sakhile Nyide, 27, was walking along a road when the two approached him. An argument ensued and Nyide was stabbed.

Mondli and Ntobeko Mbeje, aged 21 and 32, were handed over to the police on Sunday.

Police went to the men's home but did not find them there. When they arrived, their father called the police.

KwaZulu-Natal community safety MEC Senzo Mchunu commended the father for handing his sons over.

“It is, indeed, unusual for a parent to do this. But this move is commendable and heroic.”
