Durban - Residents of Blackburn Village informal settlement will meet on Tuesday to discuss imposing a curfew on residents living near the N2 pedestrian bridge where rocks have been dropped on to passing cars.
In a recent incident, Vishanie Rabindranath, 42, was travelling with her husband, Doon Rabindranath, on the N2 southbound towards Sibaya Casino at 10.30pm on July 31 when one of two rocks smashed through the windscreen, hitting the left side of her face, injuring her lower jaw, and knocking out some of her teeth.
Her husband told the Daily News on Sunday that while her condition was improving slowly, she was still unable to walk, speak or eat.
“She is in a lot of pain at the moment and relies on painkillers. She is on a regular check-up by her private doctor,” he said.
Blackburn community police forum (CPF) members said Tuesday’s meeting would discuss methods of fighting the escalating level of crime.
CPF member, Mfuneko Thonga, said local residents were shocked by the incidents and have vowed to work with police to catch the culprits.
Local councillor, Bongumusa Selby Dludla confirmed that a CPF had been formed and he was adamant that a fight against crime would gain momentum.
KZN police spokesman Captain Thulani Zwane said Phoenix police were investigating a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and malicious damage to property.
No arrest has been made.
Meanwhile, the metro police have confirmed they would be installing remote-controlled cameras at the bridge and at others in Durban, in a drive to curb stone throwing and help nab perpetrators. - Daily News
