Four in court for stealing R7m

Queenstown - Four people accused of stealing R7 million from Lukhanji municipality have appeared in the Queenstown Magistrate's Court, Eastern Cape police said on Wednesday.

Andisiwe Mrwebi, 32, an IT manager at social development in East London, Buhle Mayeza, 29, a municipal clerk at Lady Grey, Simphiwe Makhasi, 30, a clerk at the Molten police and Thulani Mkefu, 31, a police constable at Lady Grey appeared and were each granted R20,000 bail on Tuesday.

“Two of the suspects, Buhle Mayeza and Andisiwe Mrwebi, paid and are out. Two other suspects, Simphiwe Makhasi and Thulani Mkefu, have not yet paid bail and are still under police custody,” said police spokesman Lt Pumzile Makaula.

They would be back in court on March 13 next year. - Sapa
