Johannesburg -

Two men have been arrested in connection with a steroids laboratory in Pretoria East, the Hawks said on Thursday.

The men, aged 21 and 30, were caught on Wednesday night allegedly packaging and manufacturing steroids in Silver Lakes, spokesman Captain Paul Ramaloko said.

“The suspects are believed to be part of a bigger drug syndicate with international networks.”

Security guards informed the police after they noticed a foul smell coming from a lockup garage allocated to a flat the men rented.

Police recovered various drugs and drug-manufacturing chemicals, as well as packaging equipment with an estimated street value of R20 million.

The men would face charges of fraud and contravention of the medicine and health laws when they appear in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on Monday. - Sapa
