Johannesburg -

The wife of Jacaranda FM radio presenter Paul Rotherham, who was wounded in an attempted hijacking, is in a stable condition, Sunninghill Hospital said on Friday.

“I can confirm that she is stable,” said spokeswoman Mande (CORR) Toubkin.

Rotherham's wife Zina was shot on Wednesday after dropping off a friend at the Marlboro Gautrain station at 5.20pm.

The Beeld newspaper reported that Zina drove in the direction of Alexandra, in search of a route that would help her avoid rush-hour traffic.

At a stop street on Far East Bank Drive, a man walked in front of her Renault Clio, told her to get out and fired two shots at her through the windscreen, the publication said.

She was hit in the abdomen and her left hand, but drove away and phoned her husband, who alerted the local emergency services.

They raced to the Engen garage where she had parked her car and was being helped by garage staff. - Sapa
