A Free State robber has shot himself dead in Botshabelo, just as he was about to be arrested, police said on Tuesday.
Constable Nomene Mokoale said police arrived at a house in G-section after a tip-off about the men who shot dead a shop owner in a robbery on Monday.
The four men had entered a shop in Botshabelo J-section, and demanded cash at gunpoint.
When the police arrived at the house, they arrested two men, said Mokoale. The other two were buying alcohol at a local shebeen. Police followed them, he said.
“Upon noticing that the police were after them, one of the men, a 30-year-old, shot himself and died on the scene. The other one fled.”
The arrested men would appear in the Botshabelo's Magistrate Court on Thursday on charges of robbery and murder. - Sapa
