Durban - A KwaZulu-Natal man was arrested on Friday for raping his stepdaughter, said police.

Colonel Vincent Mdunge said the man, 41, from the Phoqukhalo area, had also fathered a child with the 12-year-old girl.

Community members alerted the police about their suspicions of rape in October 2012.

“When the police approached the girl's family to establish the facts and sequence of events, the family at the time vehemently denied the involvement of the father, including the allegations that were levelled against him,” said Mdunge.

However, a paternity test proved that the man was the baby's father.

He was charged with rape and was expected to appear in the Paulpietersburg Magistrate's Court on Monday. - Sapa
