Johannesburg - Two men have been arrested for the murder of a 70-year-old Butterworth woman, Eastern Cape police said on Wednesday.

The men, aged 20 and 23, were arrested late on Tuesday for killing Adelaide Nompucuko Tshuku earlier that day, said Captain Jackson Manatha.

They would appear in the Butterworth Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

Tshuku was killed in Mangweni location, in Zangwa Village, outside Butterworth, said Manatha.

“The deceased had suffered a slight wound on her lower body and had scratches around her neck. She was found in her bed and it is suspected that she might have been raped.”

She was found by a villager who was supposed to accompany her to collect her pension.

Tshuku lived alone. Her oldest son was visiting friends outside the area and her younger son stayed in another house in the same village.
