Woman raped while on her way to church

Port Elizabeth – Butterworth police in the Eastern Cape are investigating a case of rape after a woman was allegedly attacked on her way to church.

Police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha, said it was alleged that a 23-year-old woman was on her way to church with her boyfriend when the incident occurred on Sunday at Mgomanzi Village.

Manatha said while the couple made their way to church they came across two men who demanded their cell phones.

He said the woman's boyfriend fled the scene leaving her alone with two suspects who then allegedly raped her.

No arrests have been made.
