Port Elizabeth - An Eastern Cape man was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment in the Tsomo Magistrate's Court on Monday for the rape of a 67-year-old woman.
Police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha, said 40-year old Fezile Sivanjani lived in the same area when the incident occurred during July last year.
Manatha said Sivanjani carried out the crime at the elderly woman's homestead in Lesotho Location, Mpeta Village, Ngqamakhwe.
"He found her sitting on the bed, he closed the door and undressed her. He then raped the victim. After finishing raping the victim, the accused opened the door and ran away," said Manatha.
Eastern Cape police welcomed the sentence and congratulated Butterworth Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) investigators for a quality investigation which led to the conviction and sentencing of Sivanjani.
