Oslo - Up to 20 000 Norwegian commuters were late for work on Thursday after a man decided to take a nap in a railway tunnel, causing disruptions on the train network during the Oslo rush hour, railway services said.

A man was seen walking into the train tunnel at around 05h30GMT, and after he failed to re-appear, an alarm was sounded, stopping all traffic while search crews went after him.

"We immediately ordered all the trains travelling on that line to turn back," said railway spokesperson Harry Korslund.

The man was finally found by a dog patrol - peacefully sleeping in the cosy dark of the tunnel.

By the time he was escorted out, traffic had been halted for 90 minutes, making 15 000 to 20 000 people late for work.
