Cape Town - Thabo Bester, the so-called “Facebook rapist”, has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of model Nomfundo Tyulu, according to reports.

Bester was reportedly sentenced in the Western Cape High Court on Thursday.

He was found guilty on Monday of robbing and murdering 26-year-old Tyhulu at a Cape Town bed-and-breakfast in September 2011.

He was also sentenced to 25 years for robbery. The sentences will run concurrently.

The court heard he met Tyhulu at a Sandton dealership in January 2011, where she sold him a BMW.

Bester was previously sentenced to 50 years in prison for raping and robbing two models. He was jailed for 15 years on each count of rape and 15 years on each count of robbery. Five years of each robbery sentence was suspended.

He has been dubbed the “Facebook rapist” as he used the social networking site to lure women to meet him, claiming that international modelling scouts were interested in them. Armed with a knife, he then raped and robbed them. - IOL, Sapa
