Johannesburg - A man suspected to be the murderer of two toddlers found dead in Diepsloot was arrested on Friday morning, Gauteng police said.

“He was arrested in Alexandra this morning (Friday), his nationality is being verified,” said spokesman Lt Col Lungelo Dlamini.

The man, a fifth suspect in the incident and believed to be a Mozambican national, had been on the run since the discovery of the toddlers in a toilet cubicle on Tuesday.

On Thursday, police released his identikit to the public and offered a R100 000 reward for information that would lead to his arrest and successful prosecution.

Four men, who are all foreign nationals, are expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on Friday. They were all charged with rape and murder of the toddlers.

The bodies of two-year-old Yonelisa Mali and her cousin Zandile Mali, three, were found in a public toilet cubicle in Diepsloot at 5am on Tuesday.

They were reported missing at the weekend. - Sapa
