Heidedal - An alleged shooting incident in Free State left four men fatally wounded and one woman critically injured, paramedics said on Wednesday.
The incident allegedly took place at the Chris Hani informal settlement in Heidedal in the early hours of the morning.
Netcare's Nick Dollman explained that paramedics were called to the scene and when they arrived, were told that gunmen had allegedly attacked the victims and shots had been fired.
"Four males had already died as a result of their severe injuries and the fifth shooting victim, a female, had been shot in the head.
"She was in a critical condition and was attended to by a Netcare 911 Advanced Life Support paramedic and was quickly stabilised at the scene before being transported by ambulance to hospital for urgent medical care."
Paramedics also took others who had allegedly been assaulted during the incident to the nearest hospital for further treatment.
Dollman confirmed that local authorities were on the scene to investigate.
"The incident and preceding events will form part of a police investigation," he said.
