Cape Town - The woman accusing Western Cape ANC leader Marius Fransman of sexual harassment says her life is “in tatters”.

And she accused police of “dragging their feet” with the case, first reported to Sun City police station on January 6.

The 21-year-old from Stellenbosch went into hiding after fleeing from Rustenburg in North West, where she attended the ANC’s 104th birthday celebrations with Fransman.

In an interview with the Sunday Times this week, she said she had dyed her hair, changed her cellphone numbers, moved from home and cancelled her 21st birthday party.

Fransman, who was asked to step aside as ANC leader in the Western Cape, has said the case against him was part of a plot by rival ANC members to oust him.

He insists he is innocent and claims the woman is being used, but she has denied this.

The woman said Fransman initially asked her to work at a hotel in which he had an interest.

On January 4, she was informed she would be travelling with him and two of his friends to the ANC celebrations in Rustenburg.

Calls to Fransman’s cellphone went unanswered on Sunday. Both he and the woman have so far refused to discuss details of what happened at the Flamingo Hotel in Kimberley.

According to her statement to the police, she was forced to share a bed with him.

After the alleged incident, she went to the police station, where she said she was treated with “disdain”.

She told the newespaper when an acquaintance of Fransman arrived, she hid under a table and then made a run for it, finally getting home 24 hours later.

The woman told the Sunday Times her life had changed dramatically.

“Basically what I’ve been doing is hiding inside all the time and covering up for my fiancé because media would go to his workplace as well,” she said.

Her 21st birthday party at a restaurant in Stellenbosch was cancelled on January 21.

Police have refused to comment on the case.
