But by 1944, with Nazi Germany crumbling, there were fears that Adolf Hitler might change his appearance and try to flee Berlin. So US intelligence officers came up with various disguises the Fuhrer might use to sneak into another country.
They asked Eddie Senz, a New York make-up artist, to produce the altered portraits showing Hitler bald, bearded or bespectacled with his moustache trimmed in a different way.
They were circulated to Allied Commanders but had not been seen by the public until their release this week by the National Archives in Washington. - Daily Mail
