Johannesburg - A man was arrested after being found in possession of copper cable, Johannesburg metro police said on Tuesday.

Officers pursued him after he ignored a red traffic light in Alexandra, spokesman Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said.

“He was cornered in Kew, and copper cable weighing over 500kg and estimated to be worth over R40 000 was found in his bakkie.”

The 29-year-man was expected to appear in the Wynberg Magistrate's Court on Wednesday to face charges of possession of suspected stolen goods and disobeying traffic rules.
