Two men were arrested in Hillbrow for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and a hijacked vehicle, Gauteng police said on Monday.

Sergeant Jenny Pillay said the Hillbrow Tactical Response Team spotted a suspicious vehicle in Windsor East on Sunday night.

When the men, aged 27 and 33, saw the police they sped off and a chase ensued and they were cornered.

The vehicle, which was reported hijacked in Katlehong earlier this month, was searched and an AK47 was found, she said. The firearm would be sent for a ballistics test.

The men were expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrate's Court on Tuesday. - Sapa
