The Law Society of SA (LSSA) has appointed Krish Govender and Jan Stemmett as co-chairmen, it said on Monday.
Govender and Stemmett had served on various LSSA committees and had promoted the agenda of attorneys.
Govender was the State attorney for KwaZulu-Natal and an LSSA representative on the Judicial Service Commission.
He was part of a committee that founded the National Association of Democratic Lawyers, along with former justice minister Dullah Omar and former chief justice Pius Langa.
Stemmett was a partner at Polokwane law firm Stemmett & Osman Inc.
He was an LSSA council member from 1996 and a co-chairman in 2001. He also chaired the Limpopo Law Council from 1995 to 2005.
Stemmett served on the dispute resolution panels of various bargaining councils. – Sapa
