Johannesburg - A 45-year-old woman was killed and three others injured Monday morning when the vehicle they were travelling in rolled off the R509 in the Derby area outside of Rustenburg in the North West Province.
ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene shortly before 08h00 to find the light motor vehicle lying on its side, partially off the road.
"Three people were found lying outside the vehicle while a woman was found lying trapped inside the vehicle," said Meiring.
"Upon closer inspection, paramedics found the woman lying trapped in the vehicle had sustained numerous injuries and showed no signs of life. Unfortunately, the woman had already succumbed to her injuries. Nothing more could be done for her and she was declared dead on the scene."
Meiring said a 17-year-old boy was was in a critical condition, while a 14-year-old girl sustained moderate injuries. A man was also found to have sustained moderate injuries.
"Paramedics treated the patients and provided the critically injured boy with advanced life support interventions."
The boy was airlifted to a nearby hospital, while the two other patients were transported by ambulance.
Local authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.
