Tshwane - A man was killed while two others were injured after a car and truck collided on the N4 and the truck caught fire, paramedics said on Friday.

The collision took place along the highway between the Brits tollgate and Hornsnek off-ramp just after 4am.

Netcare spokesperson Nick Dollman explained how the incident unfolded.

"Reports from the scene allege that the two vehicles collided and the truck left the road and overturned before catching fire.

"Tragically the second occupant of the truck had sustained severe injuries and died at the scene. Fire Fighters used specialised rescue equipment to free him from the deformed cab."

The man was believed to be in his thirties.

He added that the two remaining patients, the driver of the truck as well the driver of the car had sustained minor injuries and were treated and then transported to the nearest hospital for further treatment.

The incident and preceding events will form part of a police investigation.
