An African National Congress member of parliament was shot dead at his home in Mhlabatini, near Ulundi in KwaZulu-Natal, on Sunday morning, said police spokesperson Inspector Sabelo Zwane.
Zwane said Bheki Robert Mkhize was allegedly shot dead while members of the South African Police Service were searching his home for firearms just after 6am on Sunday.
He said police had searched several other homes in the area for firearms.
Zwane said police were waiting for the Independent Complaints Directorate to arrive at the scene. - Sapa
