Polokwane - The ANC has overwhelmingly won in three Limpopo municipalities whose results were declared as final by the IEC on Thursday afternoon.

Provincial electoral officer Nkaro Mateta said all results in Mookgopong (Naboomspruit), Bela-Bela (Warmbaths) and Mutale municipalities have been counted and tallied.

“So there is nothing which (electoral staff) in the three municipalities still need to do, I think they have gone home and they are resting,” said Mateta.

Official results indicate that in Mookgopong, the ANC got 59.44 percent, followed by the DA with 17.54 percent and the EFF with 11.29 percent.

The ANC obtained 65.48 percent in Bela-Bela. The DA was in second position with 18.33 percent followed by the EFF with 10.59 percent.

In Mutale municipality in the Vhembe district the ANC was still leading with 86.60 percent, trailed by the EFF with 6.53 percent and the DA with 4.25 percent.

The rest of the 17 other parties, with the exception of the FF Plus which got 9.94 percent in Mookgopong, all scored less than one percent in the three municipalities.

Mateta said results from the remaining 22 local municipalities were still trickling in. By 2:45pm on Thursday, preliminary results collected across the province indicated that the ANC was standing at 590 643 votes.

The EFF followed with 71 940 votes and the DA was in third position with 52 719 votes. Cope, the official opposition in the province had collected only 4 864 votes.

“As at 11h30, we had captured 41 percent of the ballots, just over 544 000 of ballots cast and we hope to complete capturing today,” said Mateta. The number of eligible voters registered to vote in the province was 2.44 million. “With the current figure, the voter turnout is currently at just over 863 000,” said Mateta.
