Durban - The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) at eThekwini Region on Thursday welcomed Suzan Govender’s effective resignation as a Regional Executive Committee member.
In a statement, the ANC Youth League said they had been made aware of a racial incident involving Govender in which she had used a derogatory term in reference to another comrade.
“Formal disciplinary proceedings had been initiated and to which she opted to resign. The ANC Youth League much like the ANC is a non-racial organisation and racism has no space in the movement,” the ANCYL said.
The ANCYL said it had written to the leadership of the ANC to institute formal disciplinary action "in order to send a message that the movement would not tolerate any acts that seek to divide and cause tensions amongst our people".
