Pretoria - DA leader Mmusi Maimane says his party is not ruling out any prospect of a coalition with any political party.

Maimane told journalists at the national results operations centre in Pretoria on Thursday that when the time arrived for talks on who would partner with who, the DA will put down the best offer on the table.

“We are not writing off anybody, our job is to make sure that we govern for the people of this country as best as we can. We will put the best option on the table,” said Maimane.

He said his party was only interested in governing in the best interest of the people, and that he was optimistic and encouraged by the election results so far.

This is after his party proclaimed victory in a number of areas including Midvaal in Gauteng and the City of Cape Town. It's still determined to take the Nelson Mandela Bay metro from the ANC.

“We feeling good we feeling strong. We confident that the people of South Africa have come out to vote for change and so it’s quite an exciting election now at preliminary phase we feeling good and strong,” he said.

While the DA was adamant leading up to the polls that it wouldn't form coalitions with parties that didn't represent its core values, this is going to prove difficult in some municipalities.
