Two memorial services will be held for Ramokone Moloto, a former first lady of the Limpopo province, a family spokesperson said on Tuesday.

Moloto, 40, the wife of former premier Sello Moloto, died last Friday after a long battle with liver cancer.

"Mrs Moloto has shown dedication and commitment as the First Lady by establishing the South African Women in Dialogue chapter in all the districts," said spokesperson Paul Moloto.

"She managed to change the vision of the First Lady Charity Trust by broadening its scope and ensured that it covers all the areas of development and other charitable work like donating blankets for the needy, assisting in bursaries and empowering women involved in farming."

Moloto, a teacher by profession, joined the Road Agency Limpopo in 2004 but later resigned to take up her full-time responsibilities as the first lady of the province.

She is survived by her husband Sello and three daughters Sharlotte, 17, Mabatho, 14, and Seemole, 7.

Memorial services in honour of Moloto will take place on July 30 at the Bolivia Lodge in Polokwane at 11am.

A second service will be held on August 1 in Bakenberg, outside Mokopane at 8am.

A daily prayer service will be held at the Roman Catholic Church on the corner of Thabo Mbeki and Biccard streets in Polokwane from Tuesday to Thursday, this week, starting at 6pm.

"The Moloto family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the people of Limpopo province and the country for the support given to the family thus far," said Paul Moloto. - Sapa
