Johannesburg - Home Affairs Minister Ayanda Dlodlo has welcomed the return the department's director-general Mkuseli Apleni following the North Gauteng High Court ruling which nullified his suspension.

Apleni won his court bid on Wednesday which saw him return to his post.

Videos posted on social media showed how he was welcomed back with warm greetings by staff members at Home Affairs.

The judge ruled that it was unconstitutional for the minister to suspend him and set the suspension aside. He also charged costs to the minister.

He was suspended last month by the then Minister of Home Affairs Hlengiwe Mkhize who accused him of failing to implement verbal instructions from the minister to settle legal issues.

Apleni successfully argued that Mkhize was overstepping in her duties when she suspended him and that it was only President Jacob Zuma who was legally allowed to suspend him from duty.

Dlodlo's actions in welcoming back Apleni signal that she does not plan to appeal the ruling.
