Durban - National Freedom Party leader Zanele kaMagwaza-Msibi has accepted the resignation letters of two former NFP leaders.

“As the president of the National Freedom Party, I acknowledged receipt of resignation letters from our former national chairperson Mr [Maliyakhe] Shelembe and former secretary general Prof [Nhlanhla] Khubisa,” she said in a statement on Sunday.

“The two tendered their resignation letters from the party on Saturday and Sunday respectively, which I have accepted.”

Their resignations were not surprising as the NFP national working committee (NWC) held a meeting on Saturday afternoon, which ran until very late, where they deliberated extensively on various issues affecting the NFP which had brought the party into disrepute, including non-compliance with the Electoral Commission of SA (IEC) processes resulting in a case currently before the Electoral Court, she said.

“I wish them well in their future endeavours and at the same time I urge our members and supporters not to panic and not do anything that could jeopardise our party in any way.”

The NFP was stable and would emerge from this situation even stronger than before because new leaders would emerge among the “throngs of capable and dedicated members of our organisation”.

“I also want to emphasise that the NFP is not a two-men party and it is for this reason that I call upon our members and supporters to unite even more so that we can contest the forthcoming elections vigorously, as they are the embodiment of our strength,” kaMagwaza-Msibi said.
