Johannesburg - ANC heavyweights on Friday warned Tshwane residents in Mamelodi and surrounding areas that politicians will lie to them to win the capital city away from the ruling party.
The party deployed high-ranking officials on the campaign trail in Tshwane, which is expected to be the site of a close contest between the ANC and the DA, while the EFF will face its first electoral test in the region.
ANC chief whip Jackson Mthembu led the charge in warning residents of “those who will promise things that will never happen”.
He was joined by the ANC elections chief Nomvula Mokonyane, Gauteng Premier David Makhura and Tshwane regional chairman and mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa.
ANC national executive committee member Tony Yengeni was also on the campaign trail.
“It’s only the ANC that can bring you a better life.
“We have shown this to you when we made sure that not only can your children attend school for free, but they get to eat at school as well.
“We have even made sure that pensioners can receive a grant, and our children receive grants as well.
“Only the ANC has done this, and we will continue doing it,” Mthembu told supporters.
Mokonyane said the ANC was working very hard to ensure access to water and sanitation for all, saying they were prioritising the community of Pienaarspoort in the east of Mamelodi for delivery of these services.
