Parliament – Opposition benches in the National Assembly remained largely empty as MPs boycotted President Jacob Zuma's reply to the presidency budget vote on Thursday afternoon.

President Jacob Zuma took to the podium, receiving a standing ovation from ANC MPs, most of whom were present.

As he took the stand, he looked over at the empty seats and remarked to an IFP MP that he appeared to be an orphan.
