Johannesburg - The ANC has announced members of the North West provincial task team (PTT) which also includes former premier Supra Mahumapelo.
The task team was convened following the national executive committee (NEC) decision to disband the provincial executive committee (PEC) in the province.
The PTT is expected to help rescue the province from multiple political issues ahead of next year’s crucial elections.
Mahumapelo’s inclusion might be seen as a contentious issue after he was forced to resign as the premier of the North West earlier this year following weeks of protests.
Jacob Mokgoro was then appointed as premier, while Mahumapelo was allowed to remain as chairperson of the ANC in the province until the NEC disbanded the PEC.
Mokgoro has been appointed as the convener of the task team.
ANC secretary general Ace Magashule said the PTT was tasked with fixing the organisational issues faced by the party in the province. The North West has been viewed by some opposition political parties as a possible win.
Magashule has pointed out that the team’s focus will be on renewal and mobilising ahead of national and provincial elections in 2019.
