Cape Town - South Africa's potential new Public Protector is due to be announced on Wednesday afternoon

A shortlist of five people was announced by a Parliamentary ad hoc committee, after initially interviewing 14 people.

The report with the final choice then gets sent to the National Assembly at the end of the month.

Here's who they are (in alphabetical order):

  Judge Siraj Desai

A Western Cape High Court Judge, who sits on the board of the District Six Museum.

Advocate Muvhango Lukhaimane

Pensions Fund adjudicator. She was admitted as an advocate of the High Court of South Africa in 1995.

Professor Bongani Majola

Majola holds a Master of Laws Degree (LLM) from the Havard Law School in the United States, and is an advocate admitted by the High Court of South Africa and a former member of the Johannesburg Bar (Society of Advocates).

Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane

A former investigator in the Public Protector's Office and a current analyst at the State Security Agency.

  Judge Sharise Weiner

A high court judge in Johannesburg. Judge Weiner has been a member of the Johannesburg Bar since 1978.
