Beaufort West mayor Truman Prince is in the firing line again - this time for seeking to win control of a nationally managed tender process in order to allegedly siphon funds into ANC coffers for its local government election campaign.

Here are a few more scandals the controversial official has been involved in:

* In 2004, Prince allegedly told Beaufort West residents to attack police when they were searching and arresting crime suspects.

This happened after the Western Cape provincial government confirmed charges of corruption and maladministration against him.

* In 2005 Prince was arrested for charges of “riotous behaviour” after an altercation with an SABC film crew.

The Special Assignment crew were filming a follow-up to a programme in which Prince was caught on camera making sexual advances to a 14-year-old.

*

In 2011 the Beaufort West mayor pleaded guilty in the Laingsburg Magistrate’s Court of driving under the influence of alcohol.

He paid a R2 000 fine.

* In 2008 Prince was allegedly intoxicated at an Icosa national executive committee meeting. He was then a member of that party.

A witness claimed that Prince swore at Icosa president Jeffrey Donson and told him “jou ma se p**s”.

* In 2005 a close friend confirmed to the Cape Argus that in the 1990s Prince, then a teacher, had fathered a daughter by a 16-year-old schoolgirl, but said she had been “big-boned and looked 18 or 19”.
