Parliament - Outspoken former ANC MP Vytjie Mentor has blasted President Jacob Zuma on social media for failing to respond to Public Protector Thuli Madonsela’s questions on state capture.

In a Facebook post on Monday, Mentor, who chaired the portfolio committee on public enterprises in Parliament, accused Zuma of lies and hiding behind state power.

She said Zuma needed to account and he should not try and block Madonsela from releasing her report into state capture.

She said Zuma had had six months to respond to Madonsela and waited until the last minute because of his bullying tactics.

Mentor also challenged the president to a public debate on state capture after Madonsela had released her report.

Mentor’s attack on Zuma came after the president on Monday tried to block Madonsela from concluding her investigation or releasing her report.

Zuma told Madonsela he needed to question some of the witnesses, who include some of his ministers, and get the other evidence to be able to respond.

But Mentor would have none of it, saying Zuma was wasting his time, he had ample time to respond to the questions and was hiding behind his office to circumvent accountability.

Mentor was one of the first people to come out to accuse the Guptas of having an influence in the appointment of ministers.

This has been denied by the Gupta family.

But Mentor said Zuma’s time was up and he needed to account for his actions and stop his tactics.
