"I am relieved and happy that my husband has been released from Zimbabwean police custody," Leonora de Sousa-Zilwa, the wife of photojournalist Obed Zilwa, said on Saturday morning.

The expectant mother said her sleepless nights were over and she hoped to live a normal life again with her husband.

Thirty-two-year-old Zilwa, an Associated Press photographer, said in a telephonic interview he was grateful for the support that he had received world-wide while he was incarcerated.

He said he was excited that he had been released and hoped that the right person would be arrested.

Zilwa said the police were given the wrong information about him and he was not angry with anyone.

The photographer was arrested following a blast outside the offices of the independent paper, the Daily News, in Harare on April 26.

Zimbabwean police continued to detain Zilwa after the legal 48-hour incarceration period had expired at midday on Friday, when he had still not been charged.

Foreign Affairs spokesperson Ronnie Mamoepa said Zilwa was released from prison on Saturday morning in Harare, where he would remain until Tuesday when he will appear before the country's attorney-general.

Mamoepa said it was believed that charges would not be pressed against Zilwa. - Sapa
